Mars Food has announced a multi-million pound expansion of its food production facility in King’s Lynn. The announcement comes as part of a series of investment deals announced today, as David Cameron heads to the US for talks with President Obama.
Mars employs more than 200 people at the Hardwick Industrial Estate site in King’s Lynn, where products in the Dolmio and Uncle Ben’s ranges are manufactured. A spokesman for the company said the project was “an extremely exciting one which will involve extending, refurbishing and modernising the office facility at King’s Lynn.” They added: “We have been manufacturing from this site for over 50 years and continue our commitment to investing and growing the site which manufactures some of the UK’s favourite family brands.”
Government trade body UK Trade & Investment used the Prime Minister’s trip to Washington to announce a raft of deals, worth £1.1bn in total. Other commitments announced include £400m for a year-round leisure and health destination for the Peak District near Chesterfield, in Derbyshire, and the investment of £660m equity capital into North Sea oil and gas by asset management company the Carlyle Group.
“With UK exports to the US increasing by over £6 billion in just one year and US companies employing a million people across the UK, our trade relationship remains one of the strongest in the world,” said Cameron.
