The recent cold snap in Europe, caused by westerly winds from Russia at the end of February drove higher demand for electricity in the EU and UK.

Wheat prices rose slightly last month, bucking a trend that has seen prices held down by the expectation of surplus stock production. High volumes are predicted in France and Poland, while US farmers have planted larger acreages.

Triggered by increases in US crude oil production and inventories, EU diesel prices were weighed down last month. However, the stable US dollar helped prices begin to recover at the end of February.

Elsewhere, a strong sugar harvest in Brazil and Europe during the winter has subdued prices, while European feed wheat prices continued to fall in February due to high supply and reduced demand.
