Muscavado

Schweppes has boosted its posh ‘1783’ range of mixers with a new Muscovado flavour designed to go with darker spirits such as whiskey and rum.

The mixer was “naturally flavoured to deliver hints of vanilla, caramel and butterscotch”, said Schweppes. It will roll out in 600ml ‘skittle’-shaped bottles from the end of summer. Listings are yet to be confirmed (rsp: £1.92).

The launch highlighted “how 1783 is more than a range of tonics, but instead a portfolio of naturally flavoured premium mixers with the same long-lasting effervescence associated with classic Schweppes”, said Coca Cola European Partners’ customer marketing director Simon Harrison.

It comes as rum has been repeatedly tipped as the next big booze trend (after craft gin), and sales of trendy US whiskeys are on the rise.

Schweppes’ premium 1783 range first hit the market last October, positioned as a posher competitor for the likes of Fever-Tree and Fentimans, designed to pair “with premium spirits”.
