Cadbury Chocolate Mousse & Almond Cake

Who: Almondy

What: Cadbury Chocolate Mousse & Almond Cake

Where: Chilled desserts

When: Launched March 2014

How much: £2/380g

Why: Swedish supplier Almondy recently extended its licensed range - which already included products featuring Toblerone and Daim - with fellow Mondelez brands Cadbury and Philadelphia. Almondy will be hoping to tap the excellent performance of the Cadbury Dairy Milk brand over the past few years, and has also revamped its packaging to flag up the gluten-free credentials of its products.

Consumer verdict: Almondy’s cake scored outstandingly, even before respondents tried it, with almost three quarters of testers saying they would buy it pre-trial. This figure remained the same after testing, and comments included praise for the cake’s ‘luxurious’ rich and creamy taste. The overall score of 46 out of 50 was seven points above the average score for this type of product. Praise was not unanimous, however, and some testers felt the product and its packaging were mis-matched, while others commented that the base of the cake was too hard.

Pre-trial purchase: 71%

Post-trial purchase: 71%

Better than what’s out there: 64%

New and different: 91%

Overall score: 46/50
