Taza stone ground chocolate range

Stoneground chocolate has an intense flavour and slightly gritty texture

Distributor The Stateside Candy Co (SCC) has secured a deal to bring US stoneground chocolate brand Taza to the UK.

Taza chocolate uses an ancient Mexican production method to grind the cocoa beans that results in an intense flavour and gritty texture.

SCC is offering a range of products including Mexicano chocolate discs (rsp: £4.99/77g), flavoured Amaze bars (rsp: £5.99/85g) and smaller Tazito bars (rsp: £1.99). They are available to retailers now, and will be listed by Whole Foods Market from early this month.

Taza, founded in 2005, is the largest producer of stoneground chocolate in the US, manufacturing more than 135,000kg in 2014.

“This is an exciting new type of product that has a really different texture and taste experience,” said SCC director Al Baker. “I’ve not found anything that comes close here in the UK and we believe that there is definitely a gap in the market for this kind of product.”

SCC also distributes brands including Russell Stover Candies and Bone Suckin’ Sauce.
