Two of the best known brands in lager could soon join forces if Carlsberg’s bid to buy Holsten succeeds.
The £740m deal would give Carlsberg control of Holsten as well as a clutch of speciality German beer brands. The Danish brewer said that if the offer was accepted it would use its UK distribution network to grow sales of Holsten.
Meanwhile, strike action that was planned to take place at C-T’s Leeds brewery this week was called off pending a further ballot by staff. The threatened walk out, reported in The Grocer last week, stemmed from a dispute over pay. The brewer has agreed to a series of additional measures on pay.
