The campaign is designed to encourage more people to buy, eat and promote Scottish food and drink

Spar Scotland has thrown its weight behind this year’s Scottish Food & Drink Fortnight, which kicks off tomorrow.

The annual extravaganza, which runs until 16 September, is a celebration of all things Scottish and will this year sport #ScotFoodGoals as the campaign’s official hashtag.

The campaign for this year is themed around the future of Scotland’s food and drink industry and designed to encourage more people to buy, eat and promote Scottish food and drink.

Spar Scotland works with more than 150 local suppliers and some of its Scottish products, supplied by CJ Lang, the Spar wholesaler for Scotland, will be on special offer. These include speciality gins and malt whiskies.

“We decided to have a bit of fun with the event this year so we’re displaying a range of old Scots words around all Spar stores in Scotland,” said Spar Scotland marketing manager Paula Middleton.

“We’ve had great fun researching some of the words and it’s created a lot of debate and laughter in the office. Words like bahookie, Baffies and steek are just some that you’ll see in our stores and on our social media channels.”

Lucy Husband, Scotland Food & Drink UK market development director said: “Scottish Food & Drink Fortnight was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate what we have here in Scotland and we are delighted Spar Scotland are getting behind the campaign.

“It is fantastic to see the number of local food and drink products stocked in their stores and, by highlighting those products during the two weeks, they will be helping customers to discover, buy and enjoy more Scottish produce while ultimately helping the whole sector to thrive.”
