Starbucks has become the first coffee chain to back Public Health England’s campaign to tackle excessively high calorie intake.

Public Health England is working to prevent adults consuming 200-300 calories more than the daily recommended amount.

The One You campaign encourages adults to restrict their calorie intake to 400 calories for breakfast and 600 calories for lunch and dinner, plus a couple of snacks.

Breakfast and lunch options that fit calorie guidelines will be clearly displayed in Starbucks stores throughout March, adhering to PHE’s suggested limits. Starbucks will also introduce the PHE’s One You campaign focused menu board.

“We’re committed to helping customers make the right choice for them when they visit us, and we’re delighted to partner with Public Health England on the One You campaign,” said Starbucks EMEA food safety and quality vice president Sara Bruce-Goodwin.

“We change our menus throughout the seasons, and work with trend experts to give consumers something different. Our One You 400 and 600-calorie meal combinations have been created based on some of our most popular food and drinks and we’re confident there is something for everyone.”

Starbucks has already signed a sugar reduction code in alliance with McDonald’s, Greggs and Costa. In 2016, it pledged to slash sugar levels in its most indulgent beverages and baked goods by 25% and 20% respectively by 2020.
