Greggs is launching its first home delivery trial with UberEATS in Newcastle.

The service was launched yesterday, and is available exclusively through the UberEATS app, or can be ordered on its website.

The menu includes breakfast, a range of hot and cold drinks, sandwiches, salads, sweet treats, bakes and sausage rolls.

UberEATS will deliver to customers within a mile of participating Greggs stores. Each order will cost £2.50 with no minimum spend requirement.

There are no current plans to roll it out elsewhere.

“When it comes to food-on-the-go, our customers tell us that convenience is key. We’ve been working hard to take Greggs to where our customers need and want us to be including office parks, industrial estates, retail parks and travel hubs. More recently, we have also launched our office delivery service (from selected stores) and opened our first drive-thru,” said Greggs CEO Roger Whiteside.

“Online ordering and delivery is something that we are often asked about and we are excited to confirm that we have launched a trial of this new concept to customers in our home city of Newcastle upon Tyne. This latest innovation will enable customers to enjoy our great-tasting, good value food wherever they are, offering them the ultimate convenience.”

UberEATS general manager Mathieu Proust added: “We’re thrilled to be working with Greggs to offer home delivery of their food for the first time in the UK. With our UberEATS app anyone can order the food they want with the speed and reliability they’ve come to expect from Uber.”

Customers pick the delivery location and select a participating Greggs store. They can then place their order and schedule a suitable delivery time, paying with card details stored on the app. Shoppers can also receive updates on their order and watch their courier arrive live in-app.

Greggs has previously trialled an office delivery service in Newcastle, London and Manchester.

UberEATS launched in Newcastle in June 2017, and is now available in more than 100 cities around the globe.
