Amazon’s Alexa is already in use by online delivery service Ocado

Morrisons has become the first of the big four supermarkets to integrate its online grocery service with Amazon’s Alexa.

Shoppers can now order their weekly shop using voice commands. Customers will also be able to use a Morrisons skill for Alexa to add more items to their Morrisons.com shopping list.

They will also be able to ask Alexa to edit their order; ask if their delivery is on time; or check their basket to see if an item has been requested.

To access this service, customers will need to activate the Morrisons ‘skill’, which is available on devices with Amazon Alexa such as Amazon Echo, Echo Dot or Amazon Tap.

“Using voice is an element of our plan to serve customers better digitally,” said Morrisons chief technology director Anna Barsby. “Customers are increasingly using voice commands in their everyday lives to check the weather or play music and our overall aim is to serve customers in a way that suits them.”

This follows the integration of Ocado with Alexa at the end of August. Morrisons uses Ocado for its online grocery operations and part of its agreement with the online grocer is that Morrisons’ customers receive the same service as Ocado.
