co-op self service

The Co-op is introducing new PoS technology to speed up the processing of vouchers and offers, in a move that should make it easier for customers to claim cash back on its revamped membership offering.

The retailer has drafted in Promotional Payment Solutions (PPS) to introduce its cloud-based PromoPay system across its estate, which will automatically process cash back offers and vouchers without the cashier needing to check details such as expiry dates or basket sizes.

The Co-op currently receives 16 million coupons a year either at tills or self-service checkouts and is due to process an increasing amount of cash back transactions with the launch of its revamped membership offering last month. Under the new offer, members will receive 5% back on Co-op own-brand products and services and a further 1% will go to local good causes.

PromoPay works by validating and then applying the rules of all offers fed in at tills and checkouts, including discount and promotional vouchers.

The Co-op believes the technology will make transactions quicker and easier.
