Sugar prices continue to rise with concerns about the effects of El Niño. Production in Brazil fell 33% year on year to 1.68 million tonnes in the first half of September due to rainfall which hampered the harvest. Global ending stocks in 2015/16 are expected to fall 8% year on year to 40.5 million tonnes.

Arabica prices have risen month on month as stocks fell below two million bags for the first time in three years due to dry weather and plant disease in Central America. However, prices remain historically low as global production in 2015/16 is up 8% year on year.

Oat prices in the UK have fallen due to better than expected harvests. Production in the UK in 2015 is estimated at 0.8 million tonnes, 2% above the five-year average.
