Defibrillator

A Spar retailer in a hard-to-reach coastal village has installed a public use defibrillator for the local community.

Spar Boscastle, situated in a protected National Trust Cornwall fishing port, had the machine installed by public access defibrillator supplier Heartsafe. The £3,000 funding was raised by the Front Line Emergency Equipment Trust, which aims to cover Cornwall in a network of defibrillators.

Every day 250 people of all ages in the UK suffer sudden cardiac arrest and only 12 survive. Survival rates are raised by 50% in areas where defibrillators are installed. “The machine offers a vital life-saving facility,” said Spar Boscastle retailer Becky Harrison.
