Whiskas still has the lion’s share of catfood. A slide down last year’s rankings and a stagnant petfood market prompted some strong NPD - and targeted price rises - in 2012, aimed at exploiting growing demand for wet food. Though overall volumes remain static, pâté-based Tasty Textures Bite ‘n Chew and My Cat Loves pouches have helped premiumise the brand, and the resulting 5% value growth should be enough to make the folks at Mars purr.
