Asda jumps from third place to the top of the chart this week with a lead of six percentage points, forcing Morrisons into second place. Safeway has dropped one position to number three. Alcoholic drinks is the strongest category within Asda and is dominated by price promotions. Frozen is also strong and is increasingly dominated by multibuy offers. The bottom half of the stores chart is stable and there has been no movement in terms of positioning, although the competition becomes increasingly close between Tesco and Sainsbury, which are now separated by less than one percentage point. The only category to retainits place this week is alcoholic drinks at number one, and it has increased its lead to nine percentage points. Soft drinks moves up to number two with an increasingly wide variety of products on promotion and by the use of many floor stacks and gondola ends in store. Frozen comes in as a new entry at number three, heavily dominated by buy one get one free promotions. In the brand chart Kellogg's leaps from number seven to the top spot with a multitude of price promotions, particularly strong in Morrisons and Safeway. Mars moves up to second place from number four while Coca-Cola remains at number three. There are three new entries into the chart this week ­ Ariel, Nestlé and Carlsberg at positions four, eight and 10 respectively. In the own label chart alcoholic drinks pulls further ahead at number one. It now stands a full eight percentage points ahead of frozen which is a new entry this week and arrives to grab the number two spot.
