At its annual general meeting Arla Foods UK announced its chief executive, Neil Davidson, is to retire in September this year once the merger between the former Express Dairies and the Arla Foods businesses to create Arla Foods UK, is complete.

The company also gave an update on its current trading where it said it had met expectations for sales over the Christmas period and it noted particularly strong sales of its Lurpak brand.

It also said it will be closing its regional distribution centre in Stratford with the loss of around 40 jobs, which will follow the closure of its Ruislip dairy this weekend.

Arla is continuing to expand in Scotland and it will begin supplying Asda’s Scottish stores at the end of this month.
