Tesco operations and IT development director John Browett is to become the new group chief executive of electronics giant DSG International, which owns Currys and PC World.

Browett left his job at Tesco last week and is

currently on gardening leave. He is expected to

step into his new job in September, when current DSG chief executive John Clare stands down after 13 years at the helm.

In his role at Tesco, Browett was responsible for driving improvements to the supermarket company's operations by linking stores, depots and the back office together.

Previously, Browett was chief executive officer of Tesco.com, which he grew from a fledgling online business to a major player in the market.

Browett will take that background with him to DSG, where he will be

working to improve the company's online offering and boosting its efficiency.

He assumes leadership at DSG at a difficult time, as there is pressure on the group to streamline what analysts see as a complex structure across its European businesses.

DSG is hoping Browett can use his experience to push ahead with these operational efficiencies.

Tesco said that it was

currently in the process of selecting a successor for Browett's position.
