Nisa-Today’s buying controller for Nisachill Trevor Standing becomes the first buyer to appear twice in the Six of The Best gallery. Standing was nominated for the initial Six of the Best article in March in his capacity as a buyer for certain dairy products. Manufacturers have again voted Standing one of the top buyers in the cakes and biscuits category, describing him as someone who “really listens”.
Tesco’s Nick Orledge comes in for fulsome praise as “a buyer who has a clear strategy for his own business and the total UK biscuit market”. Morrisons’ Andrew Clegg is commended for his grasp of consumer needs and knowing what works in Morrisons, plus his
communication with suppliers. Karen Doran from Asda is singled out for her development of Asda’s cake sales and her understanding of the wider market. “She always looks for new ways of generating sales and profit while understanding the difficulties the industry faces.”
Somerfield and Kwik Save’s Darren Jones is appreciated for his ability to be tough to boost sales and for the support he gives to new ideas.“He is prepared to challenge suppliers to move categories forward,” said one.
Sainsbury’s Emma Banks was described as a progressive buyer who, by dint of a tenacious personality, makes things happen and always delivers.
