Food service company Compass Group UK & Ireland has announced a series of events to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week (11 to 15 March), one of which will be hosted by deputy prime minister Nick Clegg.
Compass’ events include the ‘Made by Apprentices’ showcase, hosted by the deputy prime minister. Compass’ apprentices will make canapés to showcase the company’s culinary talent, and thank people and organisations who have contributed to the apprenticeships scheme.
Other events include an annual apprentice cook-off – a one-hour cooking competition between apprentices from across the business.
Compass has offered apprenticeship programmes since 2006, with a wide range of training across hospitality, support services, professional cookery, customer service, management and security. Last year 1,600 people gained nationally recognised qualifications with the company. In August 2012, Compass launched its chefs’ academy, a two-year programme of culinary skills training for 16-18 year olds.
