Peter Kay could be the next comedian to find himself working in Asda as the

retailer embarks on a drive to recruit Britain's funnymen and women to its new advertising campaign.

Victoria Wood has already become a fully fledged Asda baker after spending three shifts in-store for the first in a series of new documentary-style adverts, to be screened next month.

This week Asda admitted it had other comedians earmarked to appear in the ads, including Phoenix Nights star Kay.

"When you see these

comedians working in Asda, people will connect and

relate to them," said an Asda spokesman.

"They have a down-to-earth sense of humour and are full of common sense. What you get is a fly-on-the-wall documentary advert. We've never done it before and, as far as I am aware,

neither has anyone else."
