West Midlands Co-op has appointed a new operations director in its food division as it steps up plans for rapid expansion.
John Howells joins the Walsall-based society from the Heart of England Co-op where he was an area manager. Before that he worked for the Midlands Co-op.
"West Midlands Co-op is a dynamic society and one that is growing fast.
I'm looking forward to bringing my experience to bear in helping it develop and build even further," Howells said.
He will report to Roy Frodsham, the society's food controller, who said of the appointment: "I'm delighted John has joined us.
"He has a wealth of experience in operational matters, marketing and merchandising and that will be of great benefit to the food division."
West Midlands Co-op runs 12 supermarkets and 20 convenience stores, with further openings planned.
Howells will be third in command at the society's food business.
