Michael Irwin, chief executive for the past five years of ADM Londis which has the rights to the Londis brand in Ireland, has resigned “to pursue other interests”, according to a statement from the company.
Irwin, a former chief accountant with Dunnes Stores, moved to ADM Londis in the mid-1990s, taking a number of colleagues with him. His responsibilities at the company are now being shared by Michael Healy, head of Londis Topshop forecourt division, and Paddy McGarry, a senior director, though this arrangement is unlikely to be permanent.
Irwin’s departure was described as amicable, though some in the trade claim he had become frustrated by the company’s failure to move from its co-operative structure, a decision reaffirmed by members at this year’s AGM. However, when Londis acquired the Topshop chain of convenience stores from Tedcastle Holdings, Irwin spoke of “looking forward to developing further over the coming years”.
