Morrisons aims to sweeten its relationship with suppliers by rolling out a tool designed to improve transparency and communication in the supply chain.

Speaking at the IGD supply chain summit, senior trading director Martyn Jones said the Morrisons Supplier Database, which already has 100 key suppliers on board, should have "most if not all" of its suppliers signed up by the

end of January.

"This gives suppliers an insight into the Morrisons business that they haven't had before," he said.

"Five years ago we had a reputation for being not particularly collaborative. That's changing." The database gives access to stock and sales information.

The roll-out is part of the ongoing process that is integrating Safeway's system-based supply chain into Morrisons' more people-oriented, flexible model. The best of both will be integrated to create the new model.
