Position: General manager, food Company: Leeds Co-op The job: Godfrey will be responsible for managing Leeds Co-operative Society's food business in its network of convenience stores throughout the Leeds area. Leeds Co-op chief executive Alan Gill said: "Alan Godfrey's career has crossed into most areas of retailing and that experience earns the respect of both staff and customers. His ability to deliver a local service with a grassroots touch from inner-city areas to rural villages is what our food operation is all about." Background: Godfrey joined Asda in 1971 after 11 years in the Royal Navy. He worked as general manager of six different stores until becoming retail training manager in 1986. He went on to become regional manager, first for the Lancashire region, then for Yorkshire and finally for the north-east regions. He then became head of retail systems IT, then head of business efficiency and finally head of value. He went into semi-retirement three years ago, but was retained by Asda for one day a week to advise on the euro's impact on British retailing. He has also worked as a specialist buyer for contract caterer Aramark over the past 18 months. He was finally tempted back to work full-time for Leeds Co-operative. {{PEOPLE MOVES }}
