Ocado will be available to five million households by November when it opens a third distribution depot in Rugby.

Ocado managing director Nigel Robertson said the spoke depot would be serviced from its distribution hub in Hatfield, and would cover the Midlands region.

Ocado has already opened spoke depots in Weybridge and Aylesford in Kent.

Robertson said: “We now cover the whole of the M25, and we are moving down towards Gatwick and as far as Reading.

“The Rugby depot will begin trading in a couple of weeks. Ocado is all about growth at the moment.”

Ocado is currently seeking a further £20m funding from private investors, on top of £30m raised in January this year.

The rapidly expanding online shopping service, in which Waitrose has a 42% stake, is set to report first half losses of approximately £20m.
