Bullring Shake Shack 1

Shake Shack bounced back to profit in 2024 as the burger chain expanded its presence in the UK.

The UK operator of the ‘fine-casual’ restaurant chain, Diverse Dining, posted a pre-tax profit of £1.1m for the year to 31 December 2024, up from a loss of £764,000 the previous year.

According to accounts at Companies House, sales rose by 6.6% to £51m, while turnover increased from £49m to £51.5m. Gross profit margin edged up by 1.3 percentage points to 69.4%.

Shake Shack attributed some of the growth to the implementation of a stronger digital presence, as well as the rollout of its partnerships with Uber Eats and Just Eat, adding to its collaboration with Deliveroo

The turnaround also comes as the US-founded brand looks to expand its presence in the UK, having opened two restaurants in London and Birmingham over the year. It now expects to open at least three additional restaurants this year.

The accounts said the company was “well positioned to enhance resilience and drive growth in the competitive QSR market”.

Shake Shack was founded in 2001 and is now present in 18 countries. Its UK arm, which serves burgers, hot dogs and shakes, currently operates 17 restaurants, with 11 in London and others in Cambridge, Oxford, Cardiff and Birmingham.

In June, the burger chain partnered with food and farming brand Wildfarmed to introduce regeneratively grown flour into its buns.

The buns now contain 25% Wildfarmed flour, made from regeneratively farmed wheat, which is grown in the UK using methods intended to improve soil health, increase biodiversity, minimise water pollution and reduce carbon.
