Martin Adamson retired as chairman of Associated British Foods this week after 10 years at ABF, six of which were as chairman. He has been succeeded by non-executive director Charles Sinclair.

Barry Grundy, a former depot manager of foodservice wholesaler 3663, has joined Convert2Green as UK operations manager. Convert2Green collects and recycles waste vegetable oil from across the food industry to produce bio-fuels.

Ian Thomson, a master baker and proprietor of Thomson's Bakery in Newcastle, has been appointed chairman of the National Skills Academy bakery steering group.

Seafish has appointed Quentin Clark, head buyer of fish, meat and poultry at Waitrose, and James Wilson, managing director of Deep Dock, as board members. Clark will represent the UK retail sector and Wilson the UK shellfish sector on the board.

Hanne Sondergaard, deputy CEO of Arla Foods UK, has taken over as chairman of Dairy UK's strategy committee. She takes the reins from Arthur Reeves, who resigned from the committee following a change of responsibilities at Dairy Crest where he is external affairs director.

Mandy Gradden is the new executive vice president and chief financial officer of Torex. She joins from business and technology consultancy Detica, where she was group finance director.

Technology company Zetes has promoted James Hannay, managing director of its UK operations, to senior vice president for North­ern Europe. He will be responsible for developing business in the UK, Ireland and Nordic countries.

The election of a new National Farmers' Union vice president will take place in February next year following the resignation of Paul Temple last month. The role will be left vacant until then with the president, deputy president, board chairmen and regional board chairmen covering the responsibilities.

Dr Sinclair Mayne, a scientific adviser with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, has been elected President of the British Society of Animal Science.
