AG Parfett & Son has posted sparkling results for its latest quarter, outperforming cash & carry giant Booker.

Like-for-like sales in the 12 weeks to 17 June rose by 9.8%, while non-tobacco sales increased by 12.7%. Booker's like-for-likes were up 7.4% in the same period.

"No business can afford even a hint of complacency in the current climate, particularly on the high street, but we are delighted that we continue to enjoy the trust of our customers and that the convenience sector is still meeting consumer needs," said executive chairman Steve Parfett.

"The continued commitment shown by our staff has made a huge contribution to achieving these excellent results."

Beer sales at the wholesaler rallied by 30% as HMRC's clampdown on alcohol duty fraud began to pay dividends.

"It hasn't tackled the full extent of the problem, but it's a big improvement," Parfett added.
