Sainsbury’s has been fined £15,000 and paid £29,832 in costs after being caught selling alcohol to kids at stores in Derbyshire by a test-purchasing operation.
Two 15-year-olds were able to buy 28 bottles and 12 cans of lager on three occasions at a store in Dronfield and were not asked for their age or for ID. At another store in Swadlincote, two 16-year-old volunteers bought six bottles of lager and eight cans of cider during two visits, but were refused on a third occasion.
Sainsbury’s said it had put in place a Think 25 policy to reduce the chance of alcohol being sold to kids.
