Tesco will create 550 new job opportunities after winning planning permission for a new e-commerce distribution centre in Enfield, North London.

The supermarket giant signed a £20m deal with Gazeley, a global provider of sustainable logistics space, to build the centre at the 15.5-acre site.

The 152,000 sq ft warehouse will supply Tesco Express stores and online deliveries to homes in North London and the home counties. It is expected to be completed in 20 weeks.

"We have experience in delivering bespoke solutions," said Nigel Godfrey, senior vice president of UK operations at Gazeley. "Our approach means we are able to deliver this site for Tesco to the highest quality. E-commerce developments are an increasing requirement for retailers and being able to deliver efficiently is vital."
