How they performed

The BP Shop was a small store, according to our mystery shopper, who felt it was cluttered and would not be very easy to navigate if it was busy. She said the checkout operator was unfriendly but the store was clean and tidy, although the shelf displays needed some work to look more attractive. This store offered 100% extra free on Tetley teabags but did not stock butter, bacon or Weetabix.

The Smile store did not stock Tetley teabags, butter or bacon and was sold out of Whiskas Catfood in Jelly. Our mystery shopper said the store was clean and tidy with attractive shelf displays.

The staff were polite and helpful and the aisles were free of packing trolleys, meaning she could make her way around the store with no problems.

The Co-operative Group's Welcome store provided everything our shopper needed except a 6-pack of bacon, instead stocking an 8-pack. Our mystery shopper said the checkout assistant was polite, but seemed in a rush to serve her.

The store also had a high number of promotions running, including 50% extra free on Tetley teabags and two - litre bottles of Coca Cola for £2.35.

Nisa was the only store to provide a full basket this week but our shopper noticed empty boxes had been left on shelves, ruining the display. Staff were very polite and offered to pack his shopping, and he noticed the store was clean.

Our shopper at Tesco Express said the store was small but it was easy to find products. There was no one stacking shelves, and it was clean with polite staff, leaving her impressed with the way the store was run.
