Motor Fuel Group, the UK’s second-largest independent forecourt operator, is on track to install 200 rapid charging points for electric vehicles (EV) by the end of the year.
MFG, which operates 439 petrol stations following its purchase of 14 from rival Golden Cross Group at the beginning of the year, signed a partnership deal with ChargePoint Services at the end of August to roll out rapid chargers at its sites that operate under the BP, Shell, Texaco, Jet and Murco fuel brands.
The chargers will become part of ChargePoint Services’ existing GeniePoint Network.
Fourteen “state-of-the-art tri-connector” rapid chargers have been installed since August.
A further 20 will be installed this month and 25 in February. Sixty are expected by the end of the first quarter.
ChargePoint said the chargers provided speedy, 50kw easy-to-use EV charging in convenient locations where drivers could take a break, buy refreshments and resume their journey.
“Our forecourt development programme includes the installation of some 200 EV charging points by the end of 2018,” said MFG chief operating officer Jeremy Clarke.
“The programme is now building up momentum and we look forward to giving our customers increased access to this important new fuel.”
ChargePoint Services MD Alex Bamberg said the GeniePoint Network was the fastest growing in the UK.
“From commuters to taxi drivers, fleet operators and independent owners, at key forecourt locations ChargePoint Services & MFG are providing a new critical service supporting the change to electric transport for government initiatives, manufacturer product direction and consumer demand.”
