Unilever’s deal to acquire hair and personal care giant Alberto Culver got the green light today after it agreed to divest the bar soaps business of the company to Lornamead.

The Office of Fair Trading concluded the acquisition would have substantially cut competition of bar soaps in the UK for Unilever’s Dove brand and demanded that the company offload Alberto Culver's bar soaps business, including the Cidal, Wright's and Simple brands.

Cidal and Wright's brands will be sold outright to Lornamead, which also gains IP rights in the UK and Ireland to the Simple brand on licence.
