We did well despite a flooded store room

David Cornthwaite Retail operations manager, Costcutter Supermarkets Sir; I am the retail operations manager for the Costcutter at Brinsworth, Rotherham, which was visited by your mystery shopper recently ('Top Up Shop', The Grocer, 7 July, p21). On four separate occasions within the week prior to your mystery shopper's visit, the shop's store room flooded. Then, on the Monday prior to the visit when the heavy rain fell, we lost all power for almost two full days, resulting in the loss of all our frozen and chilled products. We were advised that power could go off again, so we made a decision not to re-stock in the hope that we would not lose stock again. I appreciate that during your mystery shopper's visit we were not at our best - but I was still pleased with the results as published in your magazine.
