Complan owner Heinz has reported Nestlé to Trading Standards for claiming that rival health drink product Build Up is “proven to be the best tasting choice”.
Andrew Leek, MD for Complan Foods, has written to investigators questioning the validity of Nestlé’s on-pack boast and complaining that the research on which the claim is based was headed by two of Nestlé’s own employees. He also claims the study “has not been published in a peer reviewed journal” and has only appeared on a Nestlé website.
He adds: “This study was not carried out on the current recipe but a previous recipe. The study only involved strawberry and chocolate flavour and yet the claim is (also) applied to vanilla, banana and lemon & lime.”
A spokesman for Nestlé said: “We are currently investigating and will reply to Trading Standards in due course.”
