Symbol group Costcutter is planning a board level shake-up as it looks to recruit for the new role of marketing and development director.

Costcutter chairman

Colin Graves said marketing was playing a bigger

role than ever for the company in terms of media advertising and new store concepts.

The new director will pick up the marketing duties of trading and marketing director Angela Barber, while commercial and development director David Thompson will revert to commercial director.

"Angela has done a fantastic job in the six years she has been in the role. But it has just become too big a job for one person," said Graves. "Trading is a vitally important role in its own right and we feel we need a marketing specialist to take the group forward."

This is the second reshuffle of the board in three months. Thompson was only appointed to his current role last November; prior to that he was sales and development director.

The new director will play a vital role in the development of the next generation of Costcutter store formats, Graves said.

The recruitment process, which kicked off this week, should take a couple of months. It will take the number of board members to nine. Seven are from Costcutter and two from Bibby Line Group, which bought a controlling interest in Costcutter in September.
