Gluten-free bread supplier Genius Foods has expanded its overseas distribution with a listing in The Netherlands.

From this week, three Genius products – its white sliced bread, seeded sliced bread and seeded rolls – will be sold by online retailer Diepvriesmarkt.nl, which is expected to start carrying the bakery’s brown sliced bread soon.

“Bringing our products to international markets is a major focus for us,” said Genius chief executive Roz Cuschieri. “The demand for quality gluten-free produce is continuing to grow throughout Europe and we have ambitious plans for additional international expansion in 2013 and beyond.”

Genius entered the US and Canada in 2011, and last year rolled out to 350 Carrefour stores in Spain.

Genius was founded by chef Lucinda Bruce-Gardyne four years ago and is expected to turn over nearly £50m in 2013. The company recently acquired two bakeries from Finsbury Foods – UCB in Bathgate and Livwell in Hull – in a £21m deal it said would accelerate NPD and allow it to react faster to customer demand.
