Yorkshire Provender winter soups

Yorkshire Provender has added three new flavours - savoy cabbage with puy lentils & ham, butternut squash with ginger & orange and mushroom with juniper & tarragon - to its winter range, boosting the line-up to eight variants. It revamped its packaging when it brought out this year's six-strong summer line-up in April. All the lines now come in 600g tubs, up from 500g, but the rsp remains £2.29.


Heinz Classic Reduced Salt

Heinz Reduced Salt variants to Heinz's Classic range are available in four flavours cream of tomato, cream of chicken, cream of mushroom and vegetable and come in a 400g can (rsp: 79p). "The entire Heinz Soup range is already in the FSA's salt target for 2010 but we know consumers are increasingly aware of the level of salt in their food," says brand manager Jennie Chubb. "Our research identified that 42% would prefer to buy a reduced salt product if it were available."


Big & Bold New Covent Garden Food Co

New Covent Garden has launched its first range of chunky soup Big & Bold which it claims is a new concept for the chilled market.

"Big & Bold soups contain chunky ingredients that are really filling, providing a hearty, healthy meal for one," says senior brand manager Nick Munby, who claims the range of five soups will be the most significant NPD initiative in the category for years. New Covent Garden is also rolling out a range of single-portion low-calorie chilled soup.


Glorious! TSC Foods

Glorious! has added a "gutsy" range of international flavours including Sunny Thai Chicken and Spanish Tomato and Chorizo to its line-up. Its existing soups include The Grocer Food & Drink Awards 2010 gold winner Indian Chicken soup, and other favourites such as Tuscan Chicken and Orzo.

"We have created soups and pasta sauces that customers will love because they go beyond the bland flavours of other brands on the shelves," said head chef Simon Gamble.
