Greencore has agreed a pay deal with staff in Hull after workers went on strike at the end of January.

The trade union Unite said workers voted overwhelmingly to accept a revised offer from the company that included the reinstatement of premium rates of pay for overtime and a general pay increase.

Workers at the cakes and desserts factory had walked out for 24 hours on 30 January in a dispute over the withdrawal of premium pay rates and changes to shift patterns.

“Our members at Greencore have sent a clear message to management that they won’t allow attacks on their terms and conditions,” said Unite general secretary Len McCluskey.

The union added that the dispute had helped it recruit 200 new members at the Hull site.

Greencore welcomed the outcome of the ballot. “Greencore is pleased to be drawing a line under the process and it looks forward to continuing its good relationship with its colleagues at the facility,” said a spokesman.
