Despite offering only two cheapest items the Douwe Egberts coffee (£4) and the gammon joint (£3.46) Tesco returned to the top two this week with the help of its 11 promotions. This week's basket also offered the best saving on the previous week.
Sainsbury's climbed one place this week to third. It offered the cheapest rice pops (£1.18) and seven promotions, but made no price reductions.
The Cadbury Dairy Milk Caramel bars (£1), egg-fried rice (70p) and Madeira cake (£1.20) were cheapest at Morrisons but the retailer also made four price hikes, the most of any retailer this week.
Waitrose's basket was the only one to cost more than £70 and failed to offer any cheapest items. With Brussels pâté (£1.39) that cost more than twice as much as at any of its rivals, and the only Wolf Blass wine that cost more than £9, Waitrose took fifth with a basket costing £14.28 more than Asda.
