Protein-enriched ice-cream brand Wheyhey is back in business.

The supplier went into administration last year but has returned and picked up new business after securing fresh funding from angel investors.

Holland & Barrett, which listed the brand before its collapse, has increased distribution outside of London to 450 stores. Gyms and retailers including GNC and As Nature Intended have also listed the 150ml pots - which each contain 22 grams of protein.

From May, Whole Foods Market is to stock the products, which have also gained a following among Premiership footballers and national rugby teams. Welsh rugby international Sam Warburton tweeted that he was a fan after Wheyhey supplied the team during the Six Nations.

“The only game when we didn’t supply the team was the first against Ireland, which Wales lost,” said Wheyhey co-founder Damien Kennedy. “We got it to them every week after that and they won, so we’re taking the credit!”

Wheyhey has developed branded freezers following requests from stores and gyms that had not previously stocked frozen products.
