Early tomato paste contracts concluded
UK traders have expressed concern after confirmation was received that early contracts for tomato paste have been concluded with Italian tomato packers. "We expected increases but if the reports from Naples are correct we have some tough negotiations ahead when it comes to the mainstream retail contracts for plum tomatoes," said one UK representative. Processed tomato consumption has been increasing year on year despite production falling slightly, creating an estimated 10% shortfall.
