Interbrew is to consider moving from its legal home in Belgium to a tax haven after its 9.2bn euros merger with Brazilian brewer AmBev.

The maker of Stella Artois lager and Beck’s beer stressed to the Financial Times that it would not physically be moving its HQ from Leuven near Brussels.

But shareholders of both groups want to complete “an examination of the feasibility and desirability of redomiciling the company to another jurisdiction by no later than the first anniversary of the closing of the deal”, the paper said.

The FT suggested the new company might choose between the Bahamas, the Channel Islands and Luxembourg.
