A new challenger to Peperami’s crown in meat snacking hits the market next month as activity in the fixture hots up.
Red Mill Snack Foods is the latest company to enter the burgeoning market with Kabs - kabanos-style mini pork sausages in either classic or chilli flavours.
Available in 70g bags (rsp: £1.29), Kabs targets both children’s and adults’
lunchboxes as well as on-the-go snacking and will help raise the profile of meat as an alternative to more traditional snacks, the company said.
The meat snacking category has had a number of entrants in recent months, including chilled products such as Fridge Raiders from Mattessons and Snakstix from PPM Foods and bagged snacks such as Nobby’s Cuts, a beef jerky product from PepsiCo.
Because Kabs can be stored at both chilled and ambient temperatures, it will compete with all the current brands. “Kabs is the ideal convenience snack for any occasion,” said Dave Lowthian, general sales manager, Red Mill Snack Foods.
