A Swedish cider producer is looking to widen the appeal of cider by bringing out a non-alcoholic variant, as well as a fruity option.

Kopparberg, which entered the UK's off-trade market in October 2006 with its Kopparberg Pear Cider, is introducing Non-Alcoholic Pear Cider into Tesco and Asda, and a 500ml 4% abv Kopparberg Cider with Mixed Fruit into Sainsbury's.

"The two new variants will expand the profile of the brand, which has already made a substantial impact with Kopparberg Pear Cider and Apple Cider," said a spokesman.

Reduced alcohol beers and wines have been joining their alcoholic counterparts in supermarkets in greater numbers over the past year, as retailers work to promote a more responsible image.

Suppliers have also invested in improving the quality of these offerings, and recent launches in beer have included 4% abv variants from Beck's and Budweiser, while Carling launched its 2% abv C2.
