Makro has made two new appointments to its board of directors.

Mike Baker has been appointed acting procurement and merchandising director for food, and Otto van Harmelen for non-food.

Baker was promoted from head of own label and merchandising, while van Harmelen joins from parent company Metro Group. Makro said the ‘acting’ part of their titles was temporary and to be removed once formalities were complete.

Makro has also recruited Sam Newton, formerly head of advertising at Asda, to focus on customer service. Huw Edwards, who was promoted to commercial director in June as part of a management shake-up, has left the company.
