A new variety of apple has been launched into Marks & Spencer to help raise funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity.
Amelia's Apple is named after Amelia Basset, the M&S Ilkeston store manager's daughter, who died aged 11 from kidney cancer in May.
Grown in Kent and supplied by Worldwide Fruit, Amelia's Apple has a distinct yellow colour and is said to have a "zingy, lemon fizz". It launched last week in 25 stores, costing £1.99 for a pack of four.
Ten per cent from every pack of Amelia's Apples will go straight from the retailer to the children's charity, to help provide the hospital's kidney transplant centre with equipment and funds. "Every penny raised will make a huge difference to our patients and their families," said Antonia Dalmahoy, director of corporate partnerships at the charity.
