Morrisons has begun stocking a new range of locally grown chillies in 20 of its East of England stores.

The chillies are being supplied by From My Farm, which sourced them from Bedfordshire grower Edible Ornamentals. Varieties currently in season include Furilla, Cherry Bomb, the sweet pepper Thor and jalapeño Herculese. The range of up to 40 varieties will change from week to week depending on which crops are ready to harvest and the pack includes the grower's name and location.

Supermarkets commonly sourced chillies from Kenya and Egypt, but there was a growing market for home grown produce, said From My Farm founder Charlie Falkingham. "Research we did for Morrisons indicated that 74% of customers would like the opportunity to buy more regional produce in its stores."

The chillies will be on shelf until October (rsp: 69p for 50g).
