Fortnum & Mason’s executive team is completed with Robertson’s appointment

Fortnum & Mason has appointed Iain Robertson in the newly created role of chief operating and innovation officer.

Robertson is currently senior VP of global planning & inventory at luxury brand Burberry, where he has been for 17 years. He is due to join Fortnum & Mason in February 2022.

He will oversee all things supply chain and logistics, and be responsible for building more scalable operational and logistics capabilities, as well as improving operational efficiency and warehouse management.

Robertson has taken up different roles during his time with fashion powerhouse Burberry, including as co-chair of its strategic innovation council.

He has also led the creation of a “forward-thinking fashion supply chain model” and contributed to different customer-focused programmes that affected sales for the brand.

This appointment sees the completion of Fortnum & Mason’s executive team a year after CEO Tom Athron took the posh retailer’s helm.

“I am excited to be coming on board to such an iconic British brand, one that I have long admired from afar,” Robertson said.

“Come February, I’ll be diving into the behind the scenes at Fortnum’s and working with Tom and the wider team to continue the ambitious plan to better serve our customers around the world.”

Athron added that he was “delighted” to see Robertson complete the executive team lineup, and that he was looking forward to working alongside him to “further transform what we are doing at Fortnum’s”.

“As our first chief operating and innovation officer, we are looking forward to leveraging his great experience in the luxury sector,” he said.

Some of the specialist retailer’s senior appointments this year include former Waitrose director of food and grocery Rupert Thomas as chief commercial officer, and Liz Darran as chief brand and creative officer.
