Malte Poppensieker

Poppensieker helped spearhead the launch of AmazonFresh in the UK

Former AmazonFresh boss Malte Poppensieker has jumped ship to on-demand delivery service Gett.

Poppensieker, who was a senior manager at AmazonFresh and Pantry for two years, started as head of UK delivery at Gett this month.

Gett is an London-based courier service that offers delivery in one-hour time slots.

The majority of its business comes from corporate clients, including the likes of CollectPlus, but it also runs a delivery service for consumers in the capital.

The Gett app also includes a taxi hailing service for licensed black cabs.

Gett said Poppensieker’s experience of offering same-day delivery at Amazon would prove useful to the courier side of the business, which it hopes to expand to additional London zones and cities in the UK.

“We are delighted to welcome Malte to the Gett delivery team. His previous experience at AmazonFresh is particularly relevant for Gett delivery at this point in time as the company looks to expand its services to other locations in the UK,” said UK CEO Matteo de Renzi.

“In addition, same-day delivery is a specialised area, so we wanted to be confident that our new hire would be aware of the unique challenges it presents, and how best to tackle these. Having rolled out a similar service for Amazon, we are assured that Malte will bring the relevant knowledge to make Gett’s offering a huge success.”

Poppensieker started his career at technology consultancy CapGemini in 2006, before taking on the role of senior product manager at Amazon in 2012. In 2015, he was recruited to the AmazonFresh division to help launch the online service in the UK.
